Aselsan completes trials of Igla SAM launch system
Turkish company Aselsan has completed firing trials of a new mobile Igla fire-and-forget surface-to-air missile (SAM) system. During one trial, a single target was successfully engaged by a two-round Igla salvo. Developed by Aselsan as a private venture for the export market, this was a collaborative programme with the Russian Kolomna KBM company, which is the overall design authority for the Igla and Igla-S (SA-16 'Grouse') shoulder-fired manportable air-defence systems (MANPADS). The first example of the new Igla-based system has been integrated onto a Russian BRDM-2 4x4 amphibious scout car, which was purchased by Aselsan and refurbished prior to being modified for its new role
