TUSAŞ AYAZ: Turkey’s New Low-Observable Jet-Powered UAV

"Illustration: AI-generated conceptual representation of AYAZ. It is not an official TUSAŞ image and does not represent confirmed design details." Turkey is developing a new jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicle called AYAZ , adding another platform to TUSAŞ's growing family of high-speed unmanned systems. Although details about AYAZ remain limited, recent statements from TUSAŞ CEO Mehmet Demiroğlu provide some important clues about the system's intended characteristics. Smaller Than SÜPER ŞİMŞEK AYAZ is being developed as a smaller platform than TUSAŞ's SÜPER ŞİMŞEK . According to Demiroğlu, AYAZ has a range of more than 200 kilometers and is designed with low radar observability in mind. This places AYAZ below SÜPER ŞİMŞEK in size and range, but potentially gives it an important advantage in missions where a smaller radar signature and compact dimensions are more valuable than endurance or payload capacity. TUSAŞ already describes ŞİMŞEK as a high-speed target ai...

Bayraktar KALKAN DİHA Tested From TCG Anadolu and TCG Burgazada

Illustration: AI-generated conceptual representation of Bayraktar KALKAN DİHA. The image is not an official Baykar or Turkish Navy photograph and does not depict the actual test flight. Turkey has tested Baykar's KALKAN Vertical Take-Off and Landing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (VTOL UAV) from two different naval platforms, TCG Anadolu and TCG Burgazada, demonstrating the system's potential for maritime intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions. Turkey Tests KALKAN From Two Naval Platforms The Turkish Ministry of National Defence announced that KALKAN successfully completed test flights from both TCG Anadolu and TCG Burgazada. The tests demonstrate that the aircraft can operate from different types of naval platforms without requiring a conventional runway. The ability to take off and land vertically is particularly important for naval operations. Unlike conventional fixed-wing UAVs, a VTOL aircraft can operate from a relatively small flight deck, allowing smaller ...

Lockheed Martin Receives $6.3 Million Contract to Support MK 41 Vertical Launching System for U.S. and Turkish Navies

BALTIMORE --- Lockheed Martin recently received a $6.3 million contract modification from the U.S. Navy's Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) to provide engineering support services for MK 41 Vertical Launching System (VLS) work on the U.S. Navy's Ticonderoga Class guided missile cruiser modernization program and the Turkish navy's MEKO Track IIA and IIB frigates. The latest MK 41 VLS baseline VII launch control system combines commercial off-the-shelf technologies and open architecture software elements. Originally designed by Lockheed Martin in the early 1980s, MK 41 VLS has gone through numerous system upgrades and baseline improvements to introduce new capabilities, integrate new missiles and lower the total cost of ownership. "The MK 41 is the world's most reliable below-deck, multi-mission naval missile launching system with a launch success rate of more than 99 percent," said Dan Schultz, vice president and general manager of Lockheed Martin's Integr...
