7. Our Assessment
The latest ÇAKIR tests demonstrate that ROKETSAN is developing the missile as a flexible multi-platform weapon rather than a system limited to a single launch method or target type.
The ability to engage both land and maritime targets from a land-based platform gives ÇAKIR a broader potential mission set. Combined with its relatively compact dimensions and different seeker options, this could allow the same missile family to be adapted to different operational requirements.The extended-range development may be even more significant. Increasing the reach of a ground-launched cruise missile can provide greater stand-off capability, allowing mobile launchers to operate farther from the expected engagement area. This can improve survivability while expanding the area that can be covered by a relatively small number of launch vehicles.
The naval dimension is also important. ÇAKIR is not being developed solely as a land-based weapon. Its ability to be integrated with naval platforms means that the same missile family can potentially provide both land-based and maritime strike capabilities.
The significance of the latest tests is therefore not simply that ÇAKIR hit two targets. It is that the missile is demonstrating increasing flexibility in where it can be launched, what it can engage and how far it can reach.
